Why are men so cruel?

I was told by this guy that I have been seeing that he would let me know when he was feeling better and that he was really sick. Also the reason why he broke our date. ( he has cancelled the past three times in a row- all for legitimate reasons: car broke down, work, family, now he is sick) This was on Saturday. It has been 4 days and nothing. . Things just keep coming up and he cancels. I gave him a chance to end it with me and instead he flattered me by saying that he wasn't going to give up and that I am too awesome, all in a text when I asked him if being sick was an excuse. He also said that his life has been hectic and crazy. I just don't want to waste time on something that someone on the other end isn't feeling. Any suggestions on how to just deal with this maturely?
