What is your choice, Spear or Sword, in 12th Century?

I am a short woman trained in martial arts and fencing and boxing and archery and horsemanship and hunting. Due to my stature and the likelihood of encountering various types of marauding from even the best guys on the best day in the 12th century, I would have to say the long spear. this compensates for short stature, very few during the 12th century could afford to buy or keep a sword, and long spear can have a multitude of uses as a tool as well.
