Choice of City Dogs - Corgi or other dogs.?

I am considering a Corgi. I live in a major city, however I have a large apartment by city standards, and live in a part of the city where there are many parks, and the sidewalks here are perfect for dog walking. I have just graduated from school, so in the short term I will be home a lot however, once I find a job and start grad school I will be home much less often. Are there appreciable temperamental differences between a Welsh Corgi and a Pembroke Corgi? Given what I have said, are they city appropriate? What other dogs are? Thanks!
