If you like Darren Shan PLEASE HELP!!!!!?

OK, I'm a bit confused, I want to read Darren Shan's books, yet the ones which really caught my atention were the "Vampire war" ones. Are these a continuation of the rest of his books? Or can I just start reading these ones without having read the rest of them??
