When I try to play billiards on 8ballclub.com why is there such a big time delay between my shot and opponents?

There is a 60 second timer for each shot, I take my shot, and often sixty seconds p and the other player has (seemingly) not taken a shot, (this causes a foul, and is boring) but I know in real time they have taken their shot, because we are on the phone at the time, there is some fault, but I get nothing from the 8ballclub "support" help. What could be causing this?
