Job mentoring advice?

So I'm an istant manager in a retail store, and there is a woman in town who is higher up on the ladder in the company in town. I've been reading that I should try to obtain a mentor and I was thinking i could approach her about this. But how should I go about it? She's from out of town so I ume we'd only be able to stay in contact via email. But what exactly should I ask her to do? How she I maintain her as a contact? Any advice would help!
